Child Abuse and Neglect Training for Child Care Professionals
As you may know, the Ohio Administrative Code, Section 5101:2-12-10 and 5101:2-13-10 requires preschools and day care centers to have a person trained in child abuse recognition and prevention on-site (in each building) at all times. The law requires initial training of 6 hours covering specific topics by a qualified trainer. In addition, a 3-hour review class on child abuse and neglect must be attended every 3 years.
Summit County Children Services (SCCS) will offer trainings to meet the requirements for both the Initial and Review trainings. These trainings are tailored to meet the requirements for all child care employees, child care centers, and Type A homes. Topics covered in these trainings include: an overview of Summit County Children Services, indicators of child abuse and neglect, mandated reporting tips, current issues such as the opioid epidemic as well as community and family supports. These trainings will be offered free of charge.
The trainings will be held in person at the Education Center at Children Services, 264 S. Arlington Street Akron (enter Martin St., pass through the wrought iron gate and turn left, the building is up on the hill to the left). Please look for the NEORTC sign.
