Anthony Anthony
Birthdate: September 1995

Anthony’s foster mother describes him as a “gentle giant”! Tall and athletic, Anthony has a heart to match his size. He is willing to help around the house or run errands, and even cleans his room and does yard work without complaint! He is respectful and polite and a “joy to parent” according to his caregiver.

It was not always this way for Anthony however! For many years, the chaos in his home and the situations he was exposed to caused stress and worry for him. These feelings expressed themselves via angry words, fighting, alienating others, and running away from his problems. Counseling and a stable home have helped him move past those difficult years and to learn to express himself in more socially acceptable ways. There will most likely be times when Anthony reverts to old patterns, so the family adopting him should be aware of that.

School has continued to be the challenge for Anthony over the past couple of years. He finds it hard to focus on the lesson at hand and has a more difficult time learning than same age peers. He has not qualified for extra services from the school district so he would need a family who will make learning fun and who has the desire to work with the school system in creating the right program for his needs.

Anthony wants you to know that he is not quite sold on the idea of adoption! The idea of moving again, learning new rules and traditions and having to leave the friends he has made is overwhelming. He is comfortable where he is at and would need time and extended visits in order to transition successfully to a new family.

If your family is willing to put in the time, and has a desire to parent an older child, please contact his worker, Jonathan Nichols, at (330) 379-2114 or at jnichols@summitkids.org.

Bobbie Bobbie
Birthdate: January 1995

Bobbie’s passions lie where most teen girls’ do – going to the mall, shopping, talking on the phone and dressing up in the latest styles.  She loves music and finds that it calms her when she needs to relax.  She has participated in choirs and enjoys singing, although you’ll find that she’s somewhat shy when she’s asked to show off her talents!   Bobbie loves to go out to eat and is a budding chef, thinking of different food creations and combinations she’d like to try out.  She’d like nothing more than to be an apprentice in the family kitchen.

Bobbie expresses the preference for living in an all female household.  She wouldn’t mind siblings, although she doesn’t want to be in a very large family.  She needs people in her life that can really build her up and help inspire confidence in her own abilities, as she is sometimes her own worst critic.

Bobbie thrives with attention and someone that can sit down with her to talk through a problem.  Bobbie will need to continue to work with a therapist and have a supportive educational setting to best meet her potential.   Bobbie also wants a family to know that she still is in contact with her father, grandmother, aunts and cousins, and is adamant that those connections are vital to her.

For more information about Bobbie, contact her CCR worker, Heather Bell, at (330) 996-1012 or hbell@summitkids.org or her worker, Sara Herron, at (330) 379-2079 or sherron@summitkids.org.

David & Nathan David & Nathan
Birthdate: October 1998 & January 2000

At 13, David is the older of the two boys. He likes video games, fishing and enjoys playing sports of all kinds, particularly football.  David is able to get along with kids his own age but can be quick to fight if he feels other children are teasing him or provoking him in some way. David is presently in the 7th grade and he attends an alternative school where he receives extra support in academics as well as classroom behavior. David has a more difficult time learning than same age peers and is provided with interventions to help him learn. David has benefitted from this highly structured environment and he is experiencing success in his school work and in his relationships with others.  Ongoing communication with the school will be important for the adoptive family.

Nathan is 11 and is the younger of the two boys. However he often appears to be the “big brother” in their relationship by giving David advice and support. Nathan likes fishing, video games and he too enjoys sports like his older brother. Nathan is able to get along with other children but sometimes in the heat of competition he may show poor sportsmanship. Nathan is presently in the 6th grade and he receives special services to assist with school work and classroom behavior.  Nathan enjoys school and he is proud of the gains he has made in his academics and his relationships with others. The adoptive family will want to maintain ongoing contact with Nathan’s school as well.

David and Nathan had a very chaotic childhood. Adults did not always meet their needs nor did they provide the boys with a safe home environment. Although David and Nathan understand why they are in foster care, it has been difficult for them to accept that they are unable to return to their family. David and Nathan are slow to trust adults and need to be given time to feel comfortable with new faces and new places. Counseling and psychiatric services are being provided to help them to manage their mental health symptoms and behavior and to deal with the loss of their biological family.

David and Nathan would do best in a family that lead an active lifestyle and has an older child or children who are stable and have few special needs. They require attention, support and guidance and would benefit from parents who can provide structure and consistency. David and Nathan are bonded to their older brother and continued contact with him is a must.

Jackquan is a budding technology fanatic and has a hard time being torn away from his cell phone.  He’s recently found a new love for Guitar Hero, but really, any video game will do.  Jackquan is also a kid that is happy outside, playing basketball and enjoys going fishing.  His biggest passion is cars.  He can identify many of them by make, year and model, and has done a lot of work on them with the adults in his life.  He’s already decided he’d like to be a diesel mechanic in the future.  Going to car shows is a huge treat for him.

Something that Jackquan will need to continue working on is his anger management, which can sometimes lead to problems at home or at school.  Jackquan has very good insight into his challenges and wants to do better.

Jackquan is having a tough time with the idea of moving to an adoptive home and being apart from his siblings.  A family that is understanding of this, and willing to devote the patience and unconditional love to Jackquan he so desperately needs will be rewarded with a child who has the potential to blossom into an awesome young man.

For more information about Jackquan, contact his CCR worker, Heather Bell, at (330) 996-1012, hbell@summitkids.org, or his worker, Sara Herron, at (330) 379-2079, sherron@summitkids.org.

Jordan Jordan
Birthdate: March 1994

Jordan has had a very chaotic childhood. Having been in and out of foster care since infancy, and most recently, having disrupted from a long term adoptive placement, he is having a hard time processing and accepting the changes. At face value, Jordan presents as easy going, laid back, and accepting of this new journey. Underneath it all however, he is a hurt child whose trust in others has been damaged. Counseling is in place for Jordan to process all these events and changes, but acceptance will take longer to come.

Jordan wants the families out there to know that he is still open to the idea of adoption. He’d love to be a permanent member of a family, and more than anything, wants to be a “normal” teenager. To Jordan, that means being able to get a driver’s license, have a girlfriend, and hang out with friends. All this won’t come as easily to Jordan as to others……his past has left scars, and social and emotional immaturity is one. Jordan will need a longer time and more support than his peers to develop these skills.

Jordan is in high school. He currently attends an alternative school for half the day for extra support in academics and peer relations. He practices what he learns the last half of the day when he is mainstreamed for some of his classes. Communication with the school will be of importance to the adoptive family.

Jordan’s interests vary. He loves to play football, talk on the phone, and spend time “face booking" on the computer. He has long term plans to join the Navy, and is interested in becoming a Navy Seal.

For more information about Jordan, contact his CCR worker, Heather Bell, at (330) 996-1012, hbell@summitkids.org, or his worker Tammy Luhring, at (330) 996-1005, tluhring@summitkids.org.

Kahlyl’s behavior is generally manageable when he is given firm limits but with some freedoms. He is able to get along with other children and he likes it when they are his age or older. Kahlyl will need to continue in therapy to address his behavior issues.

Nathan Nathan
Birthdate: September 1997

Nathan has several ideas about what he would like to have in his forever family. A mom and dad, maybe a brother or sister, and definitely a couple of pets (especially a snake if possible)! He'd also really like to stay in contact with his maternal grandmother and mother and wants to maintain ongoing contact with them.

It's best to keep Nathan busy. He loves sports, especially basketball, and likes to play board games and build complicated creations out of Legos. But, he'll try almost anything if it means getting some individual attention from someone. He could use a family who will ask gentle questions in a calm manner and would like a family who will listen quietly when he talks about his feelings and his past.

Patience is a necessary skill for the family adopting Nathan. He wants to please and make good decisions, but needs guidance and support in learning to express his feelings and thoughts in a safe manner.

If you feel Nathan is the child for you, please contact his CCR worker, Rhonda Greer with Christian Children's Home of Ohio, at (330) 345-7949, greerr@ccho.org, or his worker, Tammy Luhring, at (330) 996-1005, tluhring@summitkids.org.

Ricky Ricky
Birthdate: May 1994

You’ve never seen concentration and persistence like it when Ricky is lost in his favorite video game. He’s your typical teen who would play for hours, left to his own devices. Further attaching him to the TV is his love of movies. However, with a little encouragement, Ricky will move on from his couch potato ways and enjoys riding his bike and collecting toy cars. He is very knowledgeable about the real cars, too, and loves his vocational classes in auto body repair.  Unlike many others, Ricky is a kid who understands that at 18, he won't suddenly have all the answers, and truly needs a family that can commit to him for many more years to come and help him navigate adulthood.  He especially yearns for a male role model that is willing to mentor him on how to become a competent, successful man.  Ricky has a great sense of humor and would fit in well with a family that is filled with love, patience and laughter.

For more information about Ricky, contact his CCR worker, Allison Neumeister with Caring for Kids, Inc., at (330) 928-0044, allison@cfkadopt.org, or his worker, Sara Herron, at (330) 379-2079, sherron@summitkids.org.

Robert Robert
Birthdate: March 1998

Robert, or “Bobby” as he is usually called, is an inquisitive and creative young man. He can be friendly and talkative, especially if you are talking about his favorite video games, Bakugan or Pokemon Cards. He is an avid photographer and would love it if he could have his own camera. Bobby is a friend to all animals and especially loves dogs. He can do well in school if he puts his mind too it, but struggles with math and doing his homework without complaint.

Bobby needs to be a part of a family that provides structure and accountability, and can be patient as he works on his ability to be honest with others. A family that is open to keeping contact with his siblings placed elsewhere is also very important. Bobby may initially be reluctant to warm up to a new family, but once he is comfortable, Bobby will show you the thoughtful, warm and humorous kid that he is.

For more information about Robert, contact his CCR worker, Allison Neumeister with Caring for Kids, at (330) 928-0044, allison@cfkadopt.org, or his worker, Sara Herron, at (330) 379-2079, sherron@summitkids.org.

Ryan Ryan
Birthdate: September 1996

Ryan is happiest in the great outdoors, enjoying camping, fishing and swimming.  His idea of a perfect day would be riding his bike around the neighborhood with his friends, exploring all that the world contains.  When the weather keeps him inside, Ryan takes an interest in music, video games, Pokemon cards and Bakugan.  He also has some excellent artistic skills and can create amazing drawings.

Ryan will need a strong, structured and devoted adoptive family.  Working in partnership with his school will be a necessity, as Ryan needs extra help and accountability with his behaviors.  Ryan will also need to continue work with mental health professionals to address a lifetime of chaos, trauma and loss.

Ryan is the oldest of a large sibling group, and although he will not be placed for adoption with them, he hopes very much that he can continue contact with them.  As an oldest child, Ryan has a take charge attitude that often needs to be re-directed, and reminders that the adults are in charge, not him.  The best fit in an adoptive home would be that Ryan be the youngest or the only child.

For more information about Ryan, contact his CCR worker, Allison Neumeister with Caring for Kids, Inc. at (330) 928-0044, allison@cfkadopt.org, or his worker Sara Herron, at (330) 379-2079, sherron@summitkids.org

Tiffney Tiffney
Birthdate: May 1995

Tiffney is not your typical teenager. She prefers riding her bike, playing with her dogs, dressing up her dolls and watching Pokemon cartoons to texting, creating My Space accounts and hanging out at the mall! Diagnosed with MRDD, Tiffney’s interests are closer in age to her 8-year-old foster sister.

Tiffney has had a very chaotic childhood. Adults have not always kept their promises nor have they provided her with a safe home. Because of this, she does not trust easily and becomes anxious and agitated when placed in new situations or with new people. Tiffney often pushes people away through her words, actions and choices but counseling and medication are helping her learn to control her impulses.

Tiffney would prefer to be anywhere except school! She finds it hard to focus on the lesson at hand and reports the work is “boring." She needs a family who will make learning fun and who has the desire to work with the school system in creating the right program for her needs. Additionally, a family providing a high level of supervision and structure is best suited for Tiffney.

Tiffney makes it clear that her new family must be willing to allow her contact with her younger sister, who has been adopted. It wouldn’t hurt if you’d cook her Ramen Noodles with butter either!

If your family is interested in learning more about Tiffney, contact her worker, Darlene Neff, at (330) 379-1947 or dneff@summitkids.org.
