Aaron
Birthdate: May 2001
Aaron would like you to know he loves music and singing, drawing and nearly every show on television. He also enjoys playing video games and basketball and eating as many tacos as he can force down! But he also wants you to know he hates green beans and commercials, and sometimes has problems following the rules at school and getting along with kids his own age!
Aaron has had a very chaotic childhood. He's been shuffled from family member to family member and is having trouble processing his placement in foster care and understanding why he is not with his family anymore. He's been able to maintain some of those birth family relationships but that sometimes confuses him since he can't stay there. These sudden changes have made it difficult for Aaron to show his true personality, but a funny and loving child is lurking somewhere near the surface and is waiting to meet you!
Counseling and medication are being provided to help Aaron learn to control his impulses and to process the many changes that are occurring in his life. In the meantime, he could use a family who will ask gentle questions in a calm manner, listen quietly when he talks about his feelings and his past and provide a high level of supervision and structure as he becomes familiar in his new surroundings.
Patience is a necessary skill for the family adopting Aaron. He wants to please and make good decisions, but needs guidance and support in learning to express his feelings and thoughts in a safe manner.
For more information about Aaron, contact his worker, Jonathan Nichols, at (330) 379-2114 or at jnichols@summitkids.org.

Anthony
Birthdate: September 1995
Anthony’s foster mother describes him as a “gentle giant”! Tall and athletic, Anthony has a heart to match his size. He is willing to help around the house or run errands, and even cleans his room and does yard work without complaint! He is respectful and polite and a “joy to parent” according to his caregiver.
It was not always this way for Anthony however! For many years, the chaos in his home and the situations he was exposed to caused stress and worry for him. These feelings expressed themselves via angry words, fighting, alienating others, and running away from his problems. Counseling and a stable home have helped him move past those difficult years and to learn to express himself in more socially acceptable ways. There will most likely be times when Anthony reverts to old patterns, so the family adopting him should be aware of that.
School has continued to be the challenge for Anthony over the past couple of years. He finds it hard to focus on the lesson at hand and has a more difficult time learning than same age peers. He has not qualified for extra services from the school district so he would need a family who will make learning fun and who has the desire to work with the school system in creating the right program for his needs.
Anthony wants you to know that he is not quite sold on the idea of adoption! The idea of moving again, learning new rules and traditions and having to leave the friends he has made is overwhelming. He is comfortable where he is at and would need time and extended visits in order to transition successfully to a new family.
If your family is willing to put in the time, and has a desire to parent an older child, please contact his worker, Jonathan Nichols, at (330) 379-2114 or at jnichols@summitkids.org.

David
Birthdate: October 1998
At age 14, David is a middle child of a sibling group. He likes video games, fishing and enjoys playing sports of all kinds, particularly football. David is able to get along with kids his own age but can be quick to fight if he feels other children are teasing him or provoking him in some way. David is presently in the 7th grade and he attends an alternative school where he receives extra support in academics as well as classroom behavior. David has a difficult time learning than same age peers and is provided with interventions to help him learn. David has benefitted from this highly structured environment and he is experiencing success in his school work and in his relationships with others. Ongoing communication with the school will be important for the adoptive family.

Lequan
Birthdate: December 2001
Lequan is a boy that is happiest outside – he loves to roller skate, play basketball, ride his bike, skateboard – you name it and he’ll try it. You’ve never seen persistence like his when learning new things – he will practice something endlessly until he’s mastered it. He craves freedom and wide open spaces where he can run, jump and play for hours on end. Lequan stays busy no matter whether he's inside or out, so video games, listening to music or watching TV capture his attention indoors. He loves animals, so a furry companion is a big plus for him, too.
Lequan can have challenging behaviors in school and at home. His adoptive family will need a good supply of patience as he learns to accept clear and consistent boundaries, along with respecting adult authority. He is an affectionate and loving kid, who simply doesn't know yet what it is like to live with a family who will not give up on him, no matter what. Lequan is a master of pushing people away who try to get close to him, so a family needs to have the strength, endurance and commitment to weather his often tough exterior and build on the many positives he will bring to a home.
For more information about Lequan, contact his Wendy's Wonderful Kids worker, Denise Barczyk with Christian Children's Home of Ohio, at (330) 621-1260, barczykd@ccho.org, or his social worker, Sara Herron, at (330) 379-2079, sherron@summitkids.org.

Marissa
Birthdate: October 2000
Marissa is a sweet girl who loves being active, whether it is swimming, jumping rope, hula hooping or riding her bike. Marissa expresses her creative side through various crafts, singing (especially in the shower), listening to music and sewing. She will gladly pitch in with chores such as working in the garden or setting the table.
Marissa recently started middle school and while she is a bright, young lady, she needs soome help with organization and social skills. A family that can advocate for her and partner with the school will enhance her academic success. Marissa's chosen family will also need to work in collaboration with other involved professionals to help her overcome a chaotic past filled with many losses. Time, patience and perseverance will be needed to acclimate her into a new environment and gain her trust.
Marissa values the time she spends with a younger brother who is being adopted separately, so an adoptive family must be willing to maintain this vital connection.

Michael
Birthdate: January 2002
Michael is eleven years old. He is an active boy who enjoys learning new things. Michael is athletic and likes to play basketball, bowl and ride his bike. He also is a wonderful singer and sings in the church choir. Michael is diagnosed with ADD and he takes medication for this condition. He is a very good student. Michael does need a very structured setting in order for him to be able to focus on his homework. Michael has a past history of abuse and neglect, so he sometimes becomes easily angered and frustrated, which results in some defiance toward his care givers. Michael also has boundary issues and has to work on appropriate physical contact with others. He needs to be supervised with other young children. Michael is in good physical health.
He is a member of a sibling group of six; however, he is placed separately from his other siblings due to issues he has related to his past abuse. Nathan
Birthdate: January 2000
Nathan is 12 and is the youngest of a sibling group. However he often appears to be the “big brother” in his relationship with his brother, David, by giving him advice and support. Nathan likes fishing, video games and he too enjoys sports like his older brother. Nathan is able to get along with other children but sometimes in the heat of competition he may show poor sportsmanship. Nathan is presently in the 6th grade and he receives special services to assist with school work and classroom behavior. Nathan enjoys school and he is proud of the gains he has made in his academics and his relationships with others. The adoptive family will want to maintain ongoing contact with Nathan’s school as well.
Nathan has had a very chaotic childhood. Adults did not always meet his needs nor did they provide him with a safe home environment. Although Nathan understands why they are in foster care, it has been difficult for him to accept that they are unable to return to their family. Nathan is slow to trust adults and needs to be given time to feel comfortable with new faces and new places. Counseling and psychiatric services are being provided to help him to manage his mental health symptoms and behavior and to deal with the loss of his biological family.
Nathan would do best in a family that lead an active lifestyle and has an older child or children who are stable and have few special needs. He requires attention, support and guidance and would benefit from parents who can provide structure and consistency.
IMPORTANT: Nathan and his brother, David, are bonded to one another. They are available to be adopted together. They are also bonded to their older brother and continued contact with him is a must.
For information about Nathan, contact his worker, Jonthan Nichols, at (330) 379-2114 or at jnichols@summitkids.org.

Nathan
Birthdate: September 1997
Nathan has several ideas about what he would like to have in his forever family. A mom and dad, maybe a brother or sister, and definitely a couple of pets (especially a snake if possible)! He'd also really like to stay in contact with his maternal grandmother and mother and wants to maintain ongoing contact with them.
It's best to keep Nathan busy. He loves sports, especially basketball, and likes to play board games and build complicated creations out of Legos. But, he'll try almost anything if it means getting some individual attention from someone. He could use a family who will ask gentle questions in a calm manner and would like a family who will listen quietly when he talks about his feelings and his past.
Patience is a necessary skill for the family adopting Nathan. He wants to please and make good decisions, but needs guidance and support in learning to express his feelings and thoughts in a safe manner.
If you feel Nathan is the child for you, please contact his CCR worker, Denise Barczyk with Christian Children's Home of Ohio, at (330) 621-1260, barczykd@ccho.org , or his worker, Jonathan Nichols, at (330) 379-2114, jnichols@summitkids.org.

Robert
Birthdate: March 1998
Robert, or “Bobby” as he is usually called, is an inquisitive and creative young man. He can be friendly and talkative, especially if you are talking about his favorite video games, Bakugan or Pokemon Cards. He is an avid photographer and would love it if he could have his own camera. Bobby is a friend to all animals and especially loves dogs. He can do well in school if he puts his mind too it, but struggles with math and doing his homework without complaint.
Bobby needs to be a part of a family that provides structure and accountability, and can be patient as he works on his ability to be honest with others. A family that is open to keeping contact with his siblings placed elsewhere is also very important. Bobby may initially be reluctant to warm up to a new family, but once he is comfortable, Bobby will show you the thoughtful, warm and humorous kid that he is.

Ryan
Birthdate: September 1996
Ryan is happiest in the great outdoors, enjoying camping, fishing and swimming. His idea of a perfect day would be riding his bike around the neighborhood with his friends, exploring all that the world contains. When the weather keeps him inside, Ryan takes an interest in music, video games, Pokemon cards and Bakugan. He also has some excellent artistic skills and can create amazing drawings.
Ryan will need a strong, structured and devoted adoptive family. Working in partnership with his school will be a necessity, as Ryan needs extra help and accountability with his behaviors. Ryan will also need to continue work with mental health professionals to address a lifetime of chaos, trauma and loss.
Ryan is the oldest of a large sibling group, and although he will not be placed for adoption with them, he hopes very much that he can continue contact with them. As an oldest child, Ryan has a take charge attitude that often needs to be re-directed, and reminders that the adults are in charge, not him. The best fit in an adoptive home would be that Ryan be the youngest or the only child.
For more information about Ryan, contact his CCR worker, Allison Neumeister with Caring for Kids, Inc. at (330) 928-0044, allison@cfkadopt.org, or his worker Sara Herron, at (330) 379-2079, sherron@summitkids.org.

Shannon
Birthdate: May 2001
Shannon would like you to know she loves music and TV (especially Hannah Montana, Camp Rock, High School Musical and cartoons); arts and craft projects; playing outside; and just talking. But she also wants you to know she hates cigarette smoke; is afraid of big dogs; and sometimes has problems getting along with kids her own age!
Shannon has had a very chaotic childhood. Adults have not always kept their promises nor have they provided her with a safe home. She is having trouble processing her placement in foster care and understanding why she is not with her family anymore. She has a hard time trusting others and becomes anxious and agitated when placed in new situations or with new people. Shannon often pushes people away through her words, actions and choices and many times responds to situations without thinking. Counseling and medication are being provided to help her learn to control her impulses. In the meantime, a family providing a high level of supervision and structure is best suited for Shannon.
Shannon likes school because she likes her teachers and her friends. However, she finds it hard to focus on the lesson at hand and has a more difficult time learning than same-age peers. She was recently tested and found to qualify for services through the local Developmental Disabilities Board. She needs a family who will make learning fun and who has the desire to work with the school system in creating the right program for her needs.
Shannon would do best in a family with no other children or in a family with an older child who is stable and has few special needs. She demands and requires extra attention, support, guidance and time, so experience, patience and consistency are needed!
