'Thank You' to School Supplies Program Donors and Volunteers

Summit County Children Services thanks the many donors and volunteers who supported the agency's School Supplies Program. This year, more than 1,500 filled backpacks were distributed to children in care to ensure they are prepared for the start of school. Thank you for your donations and volunteer efforts that helped to make this program a great success!

Foster Care & Adoption Info Meeting Scheduled

Summit County Children Services' next Foster Care and Adoption Information Meeting will be held Monday, August 24 from 6-8 p.m. at the Green Branch Library, 4046 Massillon Rd., Uniontown. At the end of July, 43 children in agency custody were waiting to be adopted. Area residents who attend the information meeting will learn a variety of details about foster care and adoption including what and how long the process is, what kind of support is provided by the agency, and the minimal costs involved with adopting a child through a public agency such as Summit County Children Services (NOTE: SCCS charges no fees for adoption services). Agency staff will be available to share basic information about the children coming into care.

Donors Treat Agency Children and Families To Baseball Game, Golf Tournament

A special 'thank you' goes to two local companies for generously 'giving back' to children and families with special donations.

  • Gary Rosen and the Akron law firm Goldman & Rosen sponsored some 20 agency foster families to an Akron RubberDucks game in recognition of the firm's 25th Anniversary. The special event included a pre-game picnic - plus the opportunity for two of the children in attendance to experience the thrill of throwing out ceremonial first pitches before the game.

  • James Kehres and the Akron engineering firm Chemstress Consultant Company once again invited a number of agency foster families to the practice round and first tournament round of this year's Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club. Not only did the families get to experience world championship golf, but they were treated to lunch in the Championship Pavilion along the famous 16th hole at Firestone.
