Meet Atije and Brian Booth
Atije and Brian Booth love children and were interested in growing their family through adoption. As foster-to-adopt parents, they were able to provide love, support, and hope for children in need. Now those children are part of their forever family.
What inspired you to become a foster-to-adopt parent?
We knew there was a need for good people to help care for our community's children. We didn't know anyone who was a foster parent so it was all very new to us.
Why did you decide to become a foster-to-adopt parent?
Originally we decided to become foster to adopt parents because we wanted to grow our family through adoption. Soon that grew into a desire to help families stay together. We wanted to be the ones to offer the love, support and hope that many of these families don't have.
What was the process like? What did you experience along the way?
The licensing process was easy but lengthy. We enjoyed the classes and the friends we met in class. We were a bit surprised by the resistance we met from our family and friends. We were constantly told, "I don't know why anyone would want to do that." We don't understand why anyone wouldn't.
What do you want the public to know about Foster Care and Adoption?
The need is great. These are our community's children and it's our responsibility to help in any way we can.
What is the best thing about being a foster-to-adopt parent/family?
It offers us a chance to be a part of something bigger than us. We not only have a positive impact on the families we work with, but we have changed the way people view foster care and foster children.
