What inspired you to become a foster-to-adopt parent?
We knew there was a need for good people to help care for children in our community.
Why did you decide to become a foster-to-adopt parent?
Originally we decided to become foster to adopt parents because we wanted to grow our family through adoption. Soon that grew into a desire to help families stay together. We wanted to be the ones to offer the love, support and hope that many of the families needed.
What was the process like? What did you experience along the way?
The licensing process was easy but lengthy. We enjoyed the classes and the friends we made in class. We were a bit surprised by the resistance we met from our family and friends. We were constantly told, "I don't know why anyone would want to do that." We don't understand why anyone wouldn't want to help.
What do you want the public to know about Foster Care and Adoption?
The need is great. There are plenty of children in our community that are in need of help and it's our responsibility to support them in any way we can.
What is the best thing about being a foster-to-adopt parent/family?
It offers us a chance to be a part of something bigger than us. We not only have a positive impact on the children and families we work with, but we have helped people understand foster care and foster children.
